Monsoon Session of Parliament second part- 2008 (Oct 17th to Nov 21st 2008)
Second Part of Monsoon session, probably the last of the 14th Lok Sabha is starting from October 17 and is likely to go on till to November 21 2008. It is unlikely that there would be any winter session this year.
There is speculation in political circles that some parties would like to see the session curtailed to leave them free to campaign for the Assembly elections slated for November and December.
Likely Agenda- Terrorism, financial crisis, privilege motion by CPI (M)
Legislative Business-
Some of the key bills expected to be introduced are-
Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education.
Employees State Insurance (Amendment)
Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export development Authority (Amendment) Bill
Supplementary demand for grants related to the railways and general budgets are also likely to be taken up.

Budget Session 2008 - Summary
The Budget Session, 2008 of Parliament (13th Session of the Fourteenth Lok Sabha and the 213th Session of the Rajya Sabha) started on Monday, the 25th of February, 2008 and was expected to conclude on on Friday, the 9th of May, 2008.
During this period, the two Houses adjourned for a recess for 25 days on Thursday, the 20th of March, 2008 to reassemble on Tuesday, the 15th of April, 2008 to enable the Department–related Parliamentary Standing Committees to examine the Demands for Grants relating to various Ministries/Departments and make their reports to the Houses.
The Session had planned for 35 sittings– 18 sittings during first part of the Session before recess and 17 sittings during second part of the Session. However the second part of the Budget session ended before time, sitting only for 11 days, with LS adjouring sine die on 5th May 2008 and LS adjouring sine die on 6th May 2008. Over all LS had sat for 28 days and RS for 30 days.
The Session was mainly devoted to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, Financial Business relating to Railway and General Budgets for 2008-09 and Karnataka Budget. Farmers' distress and price rise were the dominant non legislative issues.
Budget Session Part two (15th April 2008 to 9th May 2008 )- Adjourned on 5th May 2008
17 sittings are expected, with two holidays on 18th April and 1st May 2008. The session would be followed by Karnataka Assembly elections, which will be held in three phases on May 10, 16 & 22.
Expected Agenda
Rising Prices is likely to be the biggest issue with BJP, Left parties and UNPA planning to campaign against it. The other issues likely to be taken up are recent Supreme Court judgement on reservation for OBCs and the Tibet Issue.
Budget Session Part one (25th Feb - 20th Mar 2008)
Expected Agenda
The first half of the session is likely to be dominated by the financial business, with the presentation of Railway Budget, Economic Survey and General Budget 2008-09. Ahead of crucial assembly elections later in the year, issues like inflation, fuel price hike, farmers' crisis, internal security, demand for separate Telangana state, issue of migrants and reservation for women are likely to dominate.
35 sittings are expected, and the session would reconvene between 15th April - 9th May 2008 after a recess.
